Decarboxylative arylation with diaryliodonium(III) salts: alternative approach for catalyst-free difluoroenolate coupling to aryldifluoromethyl ketones

α-Aryl-α,α-difluoroketones were synthesized via decarboxylative arylation using diaryliodonium salts under catalyst-free conditions without organometallic intermediates. The products can be transformed into various difluorinated functional groups.

Supercritical carbon dioxide as reaction medium for selective hydrogenation of fluorinated arenes

The selective hydrogenation of fluorinated arenes with polar functionalities to valuable fluorinated cyclohexanes is achieved using supercritical CO2 as solvent in combination with Rh NPs immobilized on molecularly modified silica as catalysts.

Molybdate ionic liquids active for CO2 fixation into terminal and internal epoxides without any added halide co-catalysts are described. 95Mo-NMR spectra demonstrate the interaction and activation of CO2 with MoO4 species.

New mechanistic insights into the role of water in the dehydration of ethanol into ethylene over ZSM-5 catalysts at low temperature

We highlight the role of OH-treated weakly acidic ZSM-5 in the ethanol-to-ethylene at low temperature. Ethylene forms via (i) primary dimer from ethanol on Brønsted sites, followed by diethyl ether cracking on Lewis sites, and (ii) secondary cleavage of C–OH in ethanol over Brønsted sites.

Extending the π-conjugation system of covalent organic frameworks for more efficient photocatalytic H2O2 production

Three highly crystalline and porous COFs with promising photoredox properties have been prepared. Via a post-sulfurization process, the imine-linked COFs were converted into thiazole-linked COFs, generating a highly conjugated and ultrastable photocatalyst for H2O2 production.

Synthesis of methanol by hydrogenolysis of biobased methyl formate using highly stable and active Cu-spinel catalysts in slurry and gas phase reactions

A new two-stage production route for methanol from biomass is proposed, including hydrogenolysis of methyl formate to methanol. The Cu0.9Al2O4 spinel catalyst is shown to be highly active for this reaction and stable against corrosion by formic acid.

Tandem electrocatalytic aziridination – ring expansion of simple aromatic olefins using ammonia and carbon dioxide

The telescoped electrochemical coupling of NH3 and CO2 with simple aromatic olefins is described, forming valuable N-heterocycles in an atom-efficient manner with overall yields of up to 91%. The same iodide catalyst is required for both steps.
