Solid solutions based on BaZn2Si2O7 with thermal expansions from negative to highly positive – a review

Replacing Ba2+ by Sr2+ stabilizes the high temperature phase and leads to zero or negative thermal expansion. Replacing Zn2+ by Mg2+ or Co2+, Ni2+, Mn2+, Cu2+ shifts the phase transition to higher temperatures and leads to high thermal expansion.

Co-crystal synthesis of 2- and 4-mercaptopyridines with thiourea and its analogue, trithiocyanuric acid

For the first time mercaptopyridine co-crystals are reported as a result of the cross-crystallization of two mercaptopyridines with thiourea and trithiocyanuric acid. In one case, the co-crystal was needed to be obtained under dark room conditions.

Engineering of a kinetically driven phase of phenoxazine by surface crystallisation

Surface crystallisation yields an unknown polymorph of the phenoxazine molecule. Tuning the crystallisation conditions causes a defined crystal growth of either the thermodynamically stable phase or the kinetic phase observed exclusively within thin films.

Exploring the influence of polymorphism and chromophore co-ligands on linkage isomer photoswitching in [Pd(bpy4dca)(NO2)2]

The presence of non-innocent chromophore ligands in photoswitches can limit functionality. This photocrystallographic study shows how the negative impact of such ligands can be mitigated by control of excitation conditions, maximising photoswitching.
