Quantum theory of electronic excitation and sputtering by transmission electron microscopy

Combining quantum electrodynamics with density functional theory, we model electronic excitation and sputtering by beam electrons in two-dimensional materials. Electronic excitations can drastically increase the sputtering rates in these materials.

Playing catch and release with single molecules: mechanistic insights into plasmon-controlled nanogaps

Here we present a mechanistic study of optically induced single-molecule capture and release processes in an interelectrode nanogap. Using unsupervised machine learning, the capture and release kinetics and free-energy profiles have been revealed.
