About this collection

Guest Edited by Jessica Winter, The Ohio State University, Julien Nicolas, Institut Galien Paris-Sud, and Gang Ruan, Nanjing University.

As synthesis of individual nanoparticles has advanced, nanoparticles are increasingly combined with other materials into composites for specific applications. These hybrid materials are often multifunctional, preserving capabilities of their individual constituents, or consist of components with disparate properties, such as organic/inorganic or hydrophobic/hydrophilic sub-units. Materials can be passive or dynamic, with responses such as conformation change or degradation triggered by particular cues. Different components are combined to achieve multiple, and/or altered, and/or new functions. Hybrid nanoparticle composites have great promise in healthcare, agricultural, and environmental applications.

This Themed Issue aims to explore the latest developments in materials design and synthesis, novel design and function of hybrid nanoparticle composites, and their potential applications for healthcare, biotechnology, and environmental applications.
