Raman spectroscopy as a novel tool for fast characterization of the chemical composition of perivascular adipose tissue

One of the new targets of untapped therapeutic potential is perivascular adipose tissue (pVAT). Based on Raman spectroscopy we demonstrated that the lipid unsaturation degree was clearly distinct in various types of adipose tissues, in particular thoracic and abdominal pVATs, and was influenced by the age of animals.

About this collection

This collection of articles highlights work from the 10th conference in the successful SPEC series, held in Glasgow, UK, 10 June – 15 June 2018. The meeting featured research from scientists and clinicians, both from academia and industry, who are developing spectroscopic instrumentation and techniques to improve world health. Guest Edited by Conference Organising Committee Chair and Analyst Advisory Board Member Matthew Baker (University of Strathclyde, UK), the collection includes a topical review article by Hugh J. Byrne et al. titled “ Clinical applications of infrared and Raman spectroscopy: state of play and future challenges”.
