Activation of terminal alkynes with cis-[RuCl2(Ph2PCH2PPH2)2]: new vinylidene– and acetylide–ruthenium complexes and crystal structures of [(Ph2PCH2PPH2)2(Cl)Ru[double bond, length half m-dash]C[double bond, length half m-dash]CH2]PF6 and [(Ph2PCH2PPH2)2(Cl)RuC[triple bond, length half m-dash]CH] complexes

Abstract

The activation of alkynes HC[triple bond, length half m-dash]CR with cis-[RuCl2(Ph2PCH2PPh2)2]1 leads to vinylidenes trans-[(Ph2PCH2PPh2)2(Cl)Ru+[double bond, length half m-dash]C[double bond, length half m-dash]CHR], even directly from acetylene itself (R = H) or prop-2-ynyl alcohol, from which the Ru+[double bond, length half m-dash]C[double bond, length half m-dash]CH(CH2OH) moiety is resistant to dehydration, and deprotonation with 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU) directly affords trans-[(Ph2PCH2PPh2)2(Cl)Ru–C[triple bond, length half m-dash]C–R] derivatives.
