Ultrasonic behaviour of the system water + propylene glycol
Abstract
The effect of propylene glycol on the temperature of adiabatic compressibility minimum (t.a.c.m.) and sound velocity maximum (t.s.v.m.) in water have been studied. The structural contribution to the shift in t.a.c.m. and t.s.v.m., [ΔTβstr.]exp. and [ΔTu str.]exp., have been found to be negative: these values increase linearly with mole fraction X2 of propylene glycol. The results have been explained as due to the disintegration of the hydrogen-bonded clusters of water into monomers by propylene glycol.
