A re-examination of bis(tetramethylammonium) tetrachloroferrate(II) by Mössbauer spectroscopy

Abstract

A re-examination of [NMe4]2[FeCl4] by Mössbauer spectroscopy has revealed the presence of a phase transition at 239 K. The temperature dependence of the quadrupole splitting deviates markedly from theoretical prediction on the basis of a tetragonal distortion. Possible causes are discussed including in particular the effects of vibronic interactions.
