Some complexes of sterically hindered amines

Abstract

Some complexes of NNNN′-tetramethylmethylenediamine (tmd), NNNN′-tetramethylethylenediamine (ted), and NNNN′-tetramethylpropane-1,3-diamine (tpd) with nickel(II) perchlorate and palladium(II) chloride have been prepared. Their i.r. and reflectance spectra and magnetic moments have been recorded and an attempt has been made to elucidate their structure: tmd and ted form bis-amine complexes with nickel(II) perchlorate whereas only one molecule of tpd co-ordinates. New examples of perchlorate co-ordination have been found and a four-membered ring is postulated in the complexes [PdCl2tmd] and [Pd tmd2](NO3)2.
