Alkaloids of calabash curare and Strychnos species. Part IV. Caracurine-II
Abstract
The formation of caracurine-II methochloride from toxiferine-I requires oxygen and acid. Studies of the chemistry of caracurine-II lead to a partial structural assignment which requires only the siting of one bond to give the complete constitution (XI). This is achieved by n.m.r. studies.
The mechanism by which caracurine-II methochloride is formed from toxiferine-I is discussed briefly.
