Diazepines. Part VI. Condensation products from benzoylacetone and ethylenediamine

Abstract

Under the appropriate conditions the reaction between benzoylacetone and ethylenediamine may give rise to 2,3-dihydro-5-methyl-7-phenyldiazepine (or a salt), 1,2-di-(2-benzoyl-1-methylvinylamino)ethane, or 1,2-di-(1-phenylethylideneamino)ethane. The second of these products is converted into the diazepine when heated in acetic acid.
