A re-examination of the synthesis of perfluoro-γ-butyrolactone

Abstract

Reaction of disilver perfluoroglutarate with iodine at 120–125° gives perfluoro-γ-butyrolactone, perfluorosuccinyl fluoride, perfluorosuccinic anhydride, perfluoro-1,3-di-iodopropane, carbon dioxide, and silver iodide. Perfluoro-γ-butyrolactone isomerises to perfluorosuccinyl fluoride when heated with anhydrous potassium fluoride.
