Abstract

Reaction of hydrated ruthenium trichloride in HCl and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (H₄edta) gives the antitumour complex [Ru(H₃edta)Cl₂]·4H₂O whose X-ray structure shows the first example of a stable Ru–O [double bond, length half m-dash] COHR (glycine) bond; this type of linking has been confirmed by IR and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
