Pseudoazulenes. Part V. The chemistry of 2,4,5,6-tetraphenylcyclopenta[b]pyran

Abstract

Three tetra-arylcyclopenta[b]pyrans have been prepared. Halogenation, nitration, formylation, azo-coupling, and Friedel–Crafts alkylation of 2,4,5,6-tetraphenylcyclopenta[b]pyran takes place on C-7. Protonation and condensation with aromatic aldehydes gives pyrylium salts, the structures of which are discussed.
