Like methyl o-diazoacetylbenzoate, 2-diazoindane-1,3-dione dissolves in cold dilute alkali, and acidification of the solution gives 1,4-dioxoisochroman. With silver benzoate and triethylamine, or on irradiation, 2-diazoindane-1,3-dione provides derivatives of homophthalic acid.
