Histidine functionalized MIL-53(Al) for lead(ii) removal from aqueous solution

Abstract

In the present study, the preparation of a new MOF material His-MIL-53(Al) and its performance in the adsorption of Pb(II) from aqueous solution were investigated. The original material MIL-53(Al) was directly grafted with histidine to obtain the modified MOF material His-MIL-53(Al). The results show that His-MIL-53(Al) has excellent adsorption performance for Pb(II), and the adsorption process is in accordance with the pseudo first-order kinetics and the Langmuir adsorption model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 50.13 mg g−1, which is much larger than the adsorption capacity of the original material MIL-53(Al). The experimental results also show that the prepared material has good recoverability. Our work demonstrates the applications of His-MIL-53(Al) as a promising material in the adsorption of heavy metals.
