Isolation and X-ray structures of the hexamethylphosphoramide (hmpa)-coordinated lanthanide(II) diiodide complexes [Sml2(hmpa)4] and [Yb(hmpa)4(thf)2]I2
Abstract
Reaction of samarium diiodide (Sml2) with hexamethylphosphoramide (hmpa) in tetrahydrofuran (thf) gave [Sml2(hmpa)4]1 after recrystallization from toluene, while in the case of Ybl2, crystals of [Yb(hmpa)4(thf)2]I22 were obtained from thf; both 1 and 2 have been structurally characterized and the influence of hmpa on the reactivity of Sml2 is discussed.
