Facile formation of a bridging cyclooctatrieneyne ligand; synthesis and molecular structure of [{η-C8H6(SiMe3)2}Zr{CH(SiMe3)2}{µ-η8 : η2-C8H4(SiMe3)2}Zr{CH(SiMe3)2}]

Abstract

The reaction between the bridging chloride dimer [{Zr(η-COT″)Cl2}2][COT″= 1,4-bis(trimethylsilyl)cyclooctatetraene] and [LiCH(SiMe3)2] affords the title complex, whose X-ray structure reveals a bridging cyclooctatrieneyne ligand resulting from double hydrogen abstraction from a COT ring.
