A general method of promoting oxidative addition of C–H bonds to iridium(I) using azine phosphines

Abstract

Treatment of [IrCl(CO)2(p-toludine)] with azine phosphines of type Z,E-PPh2CH2C(But)[double bond, length half m-dash]N–N[double bond, length half m-dash]C(Q)R, Q = H or Me, R = an organic group, activates aryl, heterocyclic, alkenyl or aliphatic C–H bonds to give cyclometallated iridium(III) hydrides.
