Gas-phase acylation reactions. Formation of free benzoyl cations in the gas phase

Abstract

Free benzoyl cations, obtained in the gas-phase by the nuclear β-decay of [1,4-T2] benzene in the presence of carbon monoxide, display a high substrate discrimination between an n-base (ethanol) and a π-base (benzene).
