Sign determination of geminal and long-range cumulenic coupling constants

Abstract

For cumulenes it is established that 2J(H–C–H) is of the same order of magnitude and negative sign as allenic 2J. 5J(H–C[double bond, length as m-dash]C[double bond, length as m-dash]C[double bond, length as m-dash]C–H)-cis and -trans differ only slightly and are positive, but 6J(H–C[double bond, length as m-dash]C[double bond, length as m-dash]C[double bond, length as m-dash]C–C–H) is negative.
