The determination of nitrogen in silicon nitride

Abstract

In the method described for the determination of nitrogen in silicon nitride, the nitride is dissolved in a mixture of hydrofluoric and hydrochloric acids contained in a closed vessel lined with PTFE. After dissolution at 150° C overnight the ammonia formed is steam-distilled from an alkaline solution and determined by titration. The coefficient of variation is about 1 per cent.
