Chemistry of the metal carbonyls. Part XLIII. Perfluoroallenyl-rhenium and -iron complexes

Abstract

Treatment of hexafluorobut-2-yne with the anion [π-C5H5Fe(CO)2] affords the perfluoroallenyl complex σ-CF2:C:C(CF3) Fe(CO)2(π-C5H5). The corresponding perfluoroallenylrhenium complex is formed in the reaction between [Re(CO)5] and hexafluorobut-2-yne, but in addition a binuclear rhenium complex of formula C8F11H[Re(CO)5]2 is produced. The structures of the complexes have been established by infrared, 19F and 1H n.m.r. spectroscopy, including 19F–19F decoupling studies on the binuclear rhenium compound.
