Heats of formation of α′-beryllium chloride and α- and β-beryllium nitride

Abstract

Calorimetric determinations of the heats of reaction of beryllium and of α- and β-beryllium nitride with chlorine enable the following heats of formation to be derived: ΔH°f298(α′-BeCl2)=–117.1±0.4 kcal/mole, ΔH°f298(α-Be3N2)=–141.0±1.6 kcal/mole, ΔH°f298(β-Be3N2)=–136.7±1.5 kcal/mole. A calorimetric determination of the heat of reaction of beryllium with ammonia gave a heat of formation of α-beryllium nitride, ΔH°f298(α-Be3N2)=–140.5±0.3 kcal/mole.
