Thermodynamic study of the substituted aniline-2,4,7-trinitrofluorenone charge-transfer system

Abstract

To investigate the role of charge-transfer interactions in gas-liquid chromatography with an electron acceptor stationary phase, spectroscopic measurements have been correlated with chromatographic data for the substituted aniline-2,4,7-trinitrofluorenone system. Activity coefficients and excess thermodynamic functions have been obtained for the donors in the chromatographic solutions and comparisons of these with thermodynamic parameters obtained spectroscopically indicate that charge-transfer does play a significant part in gas-liquid chromatography, especially for the tertiary amines used.
