Heat of formation of phosphorus pentafluoride

Abstract

The heat of fluorination of phosphorus has been determined calorimetrically by combustion of white phosphorus in fluorine in a glass apparatus. The value obtained for the standard (from α-white phosphorus) heat of formation of phosphorus pentafluoride is ΔH°f298(PF5, g)=–381.4±0.8 kcal/mole.
