Mechanics of biomimetic free-standing lipid membranes: insights into the elasticity of complex lipid compositions

In this study, we prepare pore-spanning membranes that mimic the composition of plasma membranes and perform force spectroscopy indentation measurements to unravel mechanistic insights depending on lipid composition.

Structural and morphological investigation of (R)-α-phenylethylammonium-oxalate in bulk vs. nanowires on a modified substrate surface

Different forms of a chiral organic insulator, (R)-α-phenylethylammonium-oxalate (RAPEAO), was prepared: single crystal, powder and spin-coated layers on silicon substrate surfaces modified by plasma treatment or a polymer layer.

Keratin protein nanofibers from merino wool yarn: a top-down approach for the disintegration of hierarchical wool architecture to extract α-keratin protein nanofibers

We report the extraction of keratin nanofibers from the medulla of a parent yarn after denaturing the cuticle and cortex microstructures of a merino wool yarn.

Modification of nanodiamonds for fluorescence bioimaging

Detonated and milled nanodiamonds are modified with a fluorescent perylene diimide. The resulting nanodiamonds show enhanced fluorescence, good biocompatibility & uptake by mesenchyml stromal cells, and high fluorescence imaging quality.
