A fluorescent pillarene-based coordination polymer material (CP5-PCP) is first prepared with a dicarboxylic acid-containing copillar[5]arene (CP5) as the organic linker and Cr3+ as the node, showing significant fluorescence enhancement and crystal ordering, as compared with a single CP5 and counterpart coordination polymer without pillarene rings. Significantly, such CP5-PCP can serve as a potential multifunctional chemosensor for the detection of Fe3+, acetone, and nitrophenols.
