LAPONITE® nanodisk-based platforms for cancer diagnosis and therapy

Abstract

Recent advances in nanomedicine are rapidly extending the boundaries of biomedical technologies, particularly in tumor diagnosis and therapy. As a typical two-dimensional nanomaterial, LAPONITE® (LAP) has attracted much attention due to its good biocompatibility, colloidal stability, high specific surface area, and easiness of surface functionalization. Considerable progress has been made in the development of various LAP-based nanoplatforms for tumor diagnosis, treatment, and theranostics. In this review, we survey the recent advances in the development of various LAP-based drug delivery systems that have been used for tumor chemotherapy and phototherapy, tumor imaging, and tumor theranostics. The challenges and future development strategies for LAP-based nanomedicines toward practical biomedical applications are also discussed.
