Synthesis of diverse heterocyclic frameworks using cyclopentadienones via the Diels–Alder strategy
Abstract
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are highly useful in various research fields such as materials science, dye chemistry, and solar cells. The relevance and properties of PAHs are manifold, and these species also possess interesting and tunable optical and electrochemical properties. Over the past few decades, numerous hetero-atom-containing planar and non-planar PAHs have been established through the Diels–Alder approach. Herein, we briefly summarize the versatility of Diels–Alder reactions of cyclopentadienones. This review is directed towards chemists interested in Diels–Alder reactions and concise routes to diverse hetero-atom bearing PAHs using cyclones as building blocks.
