Daily blueberry consumption for 12 weeks improves endothelial function in postmenopausal women with above-normal blood pressure through reductions in oxidative stress: a randomized controlled trial

This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial showed that blueberries improve endothelial function through reduced oxidative stress in postmenopausal women with above-normal blood pressure.

Chlorogenic acid combined with epigallocatechin-3-gallate mitigates D-galactose-induced gut aging in mice

CGA plus EGCG improve the gut barrier injury in aging mice induced by D-galactose through modulating the tight junctions, inflammation, oxidative stress and dysbiosis.

Walnut polyphenols and the active metabolite urolithin A improve oxidative damage in SH-SY5Y cells by up-regulating PKA/CREB/BDNF signaling

Walnut polyphenols and urolithin A up-regulate PKA/CREB/BDNF signaling pathway which is required for their neuroprotective effects against oxidative stress and may underlie their health benefits on the brain.

Plant-based dietary patterns and their association with mood in healthy individuals

Original Mediterranean Diet and Altered Mediterranean Diet were associated with positive mood when adjusted for sex and age in healthy people. Plant-based Diet Index was only associated with children’s positive mood.

The effects of a green Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) extract on metabolic parameters and adipose tissue biology in rats fed different obesogenic diets

Supplementation with Rooibos extract modulated metabolic markers, adipocyte size and adipose stem cell (ASC) function in rats, under different dietary conditions. This is the first in vivo/ex vivo study to demonstrate effects of Rooibos on ASCs.

Saffron extract (Safr'Inside™) improves anxiety related behaviour in a mouse model of low-grade inflammation through the modulation of the microbiota and gut derived metabolites

Treatment of anxiety and depression predominantly centres around pharmacological interventions, which have faced criticism for their associated side effects, lack of efficacy and low tolerability.

Evening primrose seed extract rich in polyphenols modulates the invasiveness of colon cancer cells by regulating the TYMS expression

Natural polyphenols are plant metabolites exhibiting a broad range of biological activities.

Purified recombinant enzymes efficiently hydrolyze conjugated urinary (poly)phenol metabolites

Purified recombinant enzymes are efficient at hydrolyzing microbial (poly)phenol metabolite phase II conjugates, and hence, can be used to accurately quantify them using unconjugated analytical standards.

Cocoa flavanol consumption improves lower extremity endothelial function in healthy individuals and people with type 2 diabetes

T2DM individuals exhibit macro- and microvascular dysfunction that is pronounced in the legs. Cocoa acutely increases endothelial function of the brachial and the femoral arteries and dilation of microvasculature in the feet of T2DM and healthy individuals.

Investigating the interaction between dietary polyphenols, the SARS CoV-2 spike protein and the ACE-2 receptor

In this contribution we show that 5-caffeoyl quinic acid reduces the affinity of the Coronavirus 2 Spike protein to the human ACE-2 receptor promising dietary prevention or slow-down of the SARS-CoC-2 pandemic.
