Smart nanoporous metal–organic frameworks by embedding photochromic molecules – state of the art and future perspectives

The opportunities, properties and perspectives of smart photochromic materials, which are obtained by embedment of stimuli-responsive molecules in nanoporous MOFs (metal–organic frameworks), both in bulk and in thin films, are reviewed.

Insulin hexamer dissociation dynamics revealed by photoinduced T-jumps and time-resolved X-ray solution scattering

The structural dynamics of insulin hexamer dissociation were studied by the photoinduced temperature jump technique and monitored by time-resolved X-ray scattering.

Photochromism and the fluorescence properties of bisbenzothienylethene and S,S,S′,S′-tetraoxide derivatives with dual conjugated fluorescent groups on their side chains

The title compounds were synthesized. Bisbenzothienyl-ethenes showed turn-off fluorescent photochromism, while their disulfones showed one-way photocyclization reactions and the turn-on fluorescence.

Enhancement of NIR emission by a tight confinement of a hemicyanine dye within zeolitic MgAPO-5 nanochannels

The tight confinement of a styryl dye, LDS 730, within the 1D-nanochannels of a magnesium aluminophosphate, MgAPO-5, via a crystallization inclusion method, induces a boost in its emission properties in the NIR region.

β-Diketone derivatives: influence of the chelating group on the photophysical and mechanofluorochromic properties

A diphenyl-boron β-diketonate complex was synthesized and compared with the related β-diketone and difluoro-boron complex, showing that the three compounds display very distinct photophysical and mechanofluorochromic behaviors.

Structurally and electronically modulated spin interaction of transient biradicals in two photon-gated stepwise photochromism

Bi-photochromic compounds composed of two photochromic phenoxyl-imidazolyl radical complex units are developed. The stepwise photochromic properties can be regulated by control of the central bridging part.
