This editorial updates the Metallomics in Japan theme issue series in Metallomics. Guest edited by Yasumitsu Ogra and Seiichiro Himeno it presents papers originating from the 3rd Metallomics Research Forum in Japan held on 30-31 August 2012 at Showa Pharmaceutical University, Tokyo.

Synaptic Zn2+ homeostasis and its significance

The decrease in serum zinc is linked to the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis activation that increases the serum glucocorticoid level, indicating the importance of zinc homeostasis in physiological function.

A coupling system of capillary gel electrophoresis with inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry for the determination of double stranded DNA fragments

The coupling system of capillary gel electrophoresis (CGE) and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was newly developed and successfully applied to the double-stranded (ds) DNA quantification.

Suppression of ZIP8 expression is a common feature of cadmium-resistant and manganese-resistant RBL-2H3 cells

Synthesis of antitumor azolato-bridged dinuclear platinum(II) complexes with in vivo antitumor efficacy and unique in vitro cytotoxicity profiles

5-R-tetrazolato-bridged dinuclear Pt(II) complexes exhibited marked antitumor efficiency when tested in vivo on xenografts of PANC-1 pancreatic cancer in nude mice.
