Enhancement of analyte atomic lines with excitation energies of about 5 eV in the presence of molecular gases in analytical glow discharges

Small amounts of hydrogen or oxygen in either argon or neon plasmas cause previously unexplained enhanced excitation of various analyte atomic lines with upper energies close to 5 eV.

Depth profile analysis of solar cell silicon by GD-MS

Comparison of SIMS (top) and GD-MS (bottom) analyses on sample R6-2b (implanted B). dc HR-GD-MS can be used for depth profile analysis of impurities in PV Si with good sensitivity and a depth resolution of 0.5 μm. Concentration profiles of samples contaminated with B, P and Ti agreed well with implanted levels. For fast diffusing transition elements, e.g. Fe and Cu, different impurity distribution mechanisms occur. This should be taken into account when analysing these impurities.

A themed collection dedicated to Glow Discharge Spectroscopy featuring papers from the 2nd International Glow Discharge Spectroscopy Symposium (IGDSS2014), held at the Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic, April 7–9, 2014. The issue highlights recent developments and advances in all areas of glow discharge spectroscopy and was Guest Edited by Steven Ray, Jorge Pisonero, Peter Robinson and Cornel Venzago.
