Tools and strategies of systems metabolic engineering for the development of microbial cell factories for chemical production
This tutorial review covers tools, strategies, and procedures of systems metabolic engineering facilitating the development of microbial cell factories efficiently producing chemicals and materials.
Lipids: chemical tools for their synthesis, modification, and analysis
This tutorial review covers recently developed technologies employed for chemical synthesis, derivatization and analysis of lipids.
Linking genomics and metabolomics to chart specialized metabolic diversity
Microbial and plant specialized metabolites play key roles in mediating ecological interactions between organisms. Analysis and integration of genomics and metabolomics data facilitates charting their immense chemical diversity.
Surface analysis tools for characterizing biological materials
Surfaces have significantly different compositions and structures from the bulk of a material. Probing the surface requires specialized techniques and this tutorial provides a brief review of techniques used to characterize the surface and interface regions of biological materials.
Peptidomimetic toolbox for drug discovery
Local modifications, secondary structure mimetics and global restrictions are useful synthetic tools for peptidomimetic design.
About this collection
We are pleased to present a series of tutorial reviews at the Chemistry Biology Interface, Guest Edited by Carolyn Bertozzi (Stanford University), Margaret Brimble (University of Auckland), Huimin Zhao (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), Hagan Bayley (University of Oxford) and Rebecca Goss (University of St Andrews). The collection is aimed at providing a go to resource for accessible introduction to topics within this field. We envision this primer collection being used by people transitioning into this area/engaging in new cross disciplinary collaboration and as a resource for final year/masters/PhD teaching.
