Physico-chemical studies in non-aqueous solvents. Part 6.—Cryoscopic studies of 1 : 1 electrolytes in formamide

Abstract

Cryoscopic measurements have been carried out in formamide for 30 1 : 1 electrolytes in the concentration range 0.002 to 0.25 mol kg–1. Activity coefficients (γ±) for all the electrolytes have been evaluated using a modified Lewis-Randall equation. For comparison between electrolytes, activity coefficients at 0.03, 0.05, 0.07 and 0.10 mol kg–1 have been computed from the plots of γ± against molality. Higher activity coefficients of the electrolytes in formamide than in water indicate the superior “dissociating” power of formamide.
