The vibrational spectra of some chloro-anions

Abstract

Vibrational spectra of the following ions are reported: InCl₆^3–, TlCl₆^3–, PbCl₆^4–, SbCl₆^3–, BiCl₆^3–, SeCl₆^2–, TeCl₆^2–, SbCl₅^2–. It is suggested that ν₃ for the octahedral “inert pair ions” may be anomalously broad. In species such as Cs₂SbCl₆ the presence of Sb^III and Sb^V is observed and the relative intensities of the bands due to the individual complex ions are briefly discussed.
