Synthesis and structural characterization of Sb(iii) and Bi(iii) complexes with an N2O2-type tetradentate dipyrrin ligand

Abstract

Antimony(III) and bismuth(III) complexes featuring an N2O2-type tetradentate dipyrrin ligand were synthesized and exhibited moderate stability under air and moisture. The Sb and Bi centres adopted square pyramidal geometries, and intermolecular Sb/Bi–π interactions were observed. The Bi complex was nonluminescent, probably because of intersystem crossing facilitated by the heavy atom effect.
