Spin-state modulation by host–guest chemistry with cucurbiturils

Abstract

The host–guest binding of cucurbit[7]uril to a methylpyridinium-functionalized Co(II)-terpyridine complex shifts the spin equilibrium to the low-spin state (ΔT1/2 = 77 K) via secondary coordination sphere perturbations.
