Sustainable bio-based furan epoxy resin with flame retardancy

Abstract

A novel bis-furan diepoxide (OmbFdE) was developed via a mild and scalable route, and applied in epoxy resins in an eco-friendly manner, with the resulting materials showing good thermal stability. Especially for the formulation OmbFdE/TEGA (TEGA = 2,2′-(ethane-1,2-diylbis(oxy))bis(ethan-1-amine)), a comparatively low heat release and formation of a carbon wall accounted for outstanding flame retardancy, indicating its potential application in engineering.
