Supramolecular single-stranded calix[4]arene helices—towards a crystal engineering approach of homochiral assemblies

Abstract

By analysing the X-ray single crystal structure of an achiral calix[4]arene that assembles into a racemic mixture of single-stranded helices, a rational structural design of a chiral calix[4]arene congener is presented, leading to homochiral helical strands with similar pitch length and diameter in the crystalline state.
