Solvent-directed layered Co(ii) coordination polymers with unusual solid-state properties: from a nanoporous framework to the dense polythreading 3-D aggregation

Abstract

Solvent-controlled assembly of distinct layered Co(II) coordination polymers {[Co(pypz)2(dca)](OH)(gly)2}n (1) and [Co(pypz)2(dca)2]n (2) with unusual nanoporous or polythreaded architectures, is described. The subtle discrepancy of the solvent media also leads to the generation of the hydrate of 2, namely {[Co(pypz)2(dca)2](H2O)}n (3), and an irreversible conversion from the dehydrate to hydrate phase is observed. Both crystalline materials interestingly show different solid characteristics (e.g. color, shape and stability), although very similar chemical structures.
