Red photoluminescence in the synthesis of triphenylmethyl radicals by the Gomberg method

Abstract

The red photoluminescence (λmax = 580±20 nm) observed in the synthesis of the Ph3C.; Gomberg radical is assigned to a lumines-cence of the (Ph3C–Ph–C.Ph2)* radical dimer.
