Efficient reduction catalysis of viologen-bound iron porphyrin and its application to six-electron reduction of nitrobenzene to aniline

Abstract

A newly synthesized methylviologen-bound iron porphyrin chloro(5-{4-[3-(1′-methyl-4,4′-bipyridinium)ethylcarboxyamidyl]phenyl}-10,15,20-triphenylporphyrin)iron dichloride, efficiently catalyzes six-electron reduction of nitrobenzene to aniline, a model reaction of NO2 conversion to NH4+ by nitrite reductase.
