Synthesis and crystal structure of the homoleptic uranium (IV) thiolates [(thf)3Na(µ-SR)3U(µ-SR)3NA(thf)3](thf = tetrahydrofuran; R = But or Ph)

Abstract

The uranium(IV) hexathiolate complexes [(thf)3Na(µ-SR)3U(µ-SR)3Na(thf)3](thf = tetrahydrofuran; R = Bun, Pri, But or Ph) were prepared by treatment of UCl4 or U(BH4)4 with the corresponding NaSR reagent. The crystal structures of the tert-butyl and phenyl derivatives have been determined. Reaction of U(SBun)4 with NaSBun gave the anion [U(SBun)6]2– which, by protonation with NEt3HBPh4, was transformed back into U(SBun)4.
