Silver(I) oxide-mediated syntheses of four-membered ring platinalactones

Abstract

Reaction of cis-[PtCl2(PPh3)2] with an excess of dialkyl malonate in the presence of silver(I) oxide afforded the platinalactone complexes [[graphic omitted]H(CO2R)}(PPh3)2](R = Me or Et), via a novel cyclisation reaction. The platinalactone complexes have been fully characterised by NMR spectroscopy. Functionalised acetic acids containing activated hydrogens may also be used to synthesise four-membered ring platinalactones.
