1,5-Ditelluracyclooctane 1 reacted with halogens (I₂ and Cl₂) to give new dihalogenoditelluranes with a Te^IV–Te^IV. Reduction of the latter with aqueous NaOH, PhSH, Na₂S and SmI₂ gave the neutral bis-teliuride 1.
