Synthesis of the first heterobimetallic rhenium–ruthenium η2-dihydrogen complexes

Abstract

The complex [(PPh3)2HRe(µ-H)3(µ-CO)RuH(PPh3)2]1, resulting from the reaction of [ReH6(PPh3)2] with [RuHCl(CO)(PPh3)3], reacts with chloroform to give [(PPh3)2HRe(µ-Cl)2(µ-H)(µ-CO)RuH(PPh3)2]2; protonation of 1 and 2 with HBF4·Et2O leads to the formation of the fluxional [(PPh3)2HRe(µ-H)3(µ-CO)Ru(η2-H2)(PPh3)2][BF4]3, and the rigid [(PPh3)2HRe(µ-H)(µ-Cl)2(µ-CO)Ru(η2-H2)(PPh3)2][BF4]4 complexes.
