Isomerization of diastereoisomeric alkene complexes of the formula [(η5-C5H5)Re(NO)(PPh3)(H2C[double bond, length half m-dash]CHR)]+; the alkene enantioface bound to the metal can ‘flip’ without alkene dissociation

Abstract

Deuterium labelling experiments show that the title reaction is intramolecular, and does not proceed by rotation of the [double bond, length half m-dash]CHR terminus; a mechanism involving a C-H ‘σ bond complex’ is proposed.
