Specific and sensitive method for the determination of trace amounts of chromium using the catalytic current at a dropping mercury electrode
Abstract
A simple, sensitive and specific polarographic method is proposed for the determination of trace amounts of chromium, based on the catalytic current of chromium in the presence of sodium pentamethylenedithiocarbamate (NaPipDTC) at a dropping mercury electrode. With the exception of molybdenum, no other metal ions interfere because of precipitation with PipDTC in the pH range 7.0–12.0. The method was applied to the determination of chromium in Ocimum sanctum leaves and stainless steel.
